Storms Ave Kitchen

Full kitchen renovation of a house built in 1908. Interior was demolished down to wood framing. Within the kitchen there were multiple doors that extremely limited the functionality of the kitchen. Wall separating kitchen and dining room was removed to create a more open concept and provide better sight lines into the living room. Taller than average ceilings of 9’ and full height cabinets provide plenty of storage space. The existing chimney was clad in ledgestone to provide a natural element and a design focal point. The biggest addition in a modern kitchen is a large island for food preparation, eating meals and gathering space during parties. The kitchen is typically the heart of the home and is certainly true for this home.

Design limiting factor and resolution:

The existing kitchen had three doors within the space. One leading to the basement, one to the un-insulated pantry and one to the back door leading to the backyard. The door to the basement was relocated to be accessible from the foyer and concealed as part of the stair trimwork. The pantry door was removed and a fully insulated mudroom was provided which utilized the existing door to the backyard. The removal of these doors allowed for ample cabinet, countertop space and greatly increased the use of the space.
